The Rotes Kliff lighthouse on the island of Sylt, Germany, served as a sector light from 1913-1975. It is located on a cliff north of the village of Kampen. For centuries, these remarkable cliffs were an unmistakable landmark for the island for ships. Since the end of 1970, however, coastal defence measures have been taken. However, this has also led to the Rotes Kliff in the municipality of Wenningstedt becoming mostly invisible from the sea, as it is now hidden behind grass-covered sand dunes.
